REMIX – Confrontation through Art exhibition

*Turkish & English Follows*

CtA – REMIX

CtA – REMIX
A group exhibition by
Greek-Cypriot, Turkish-Cypriot & European artists

Opening – Friday, 06 . 10 . 2017
Time – 19: 00
Open until – 15 . 10 . 2017

Opening hours: Monday – Friday/16:00 – 22:00 | Saturday – Sunday/11:00 – 22:00

Curation: Sylia Panayiotidou, Argyro Toumazou, Ozgul Ezgin, Constantinos Georgiou

CtA – REMIX is an exhibition that presents a selection of the resulting artworks of five Artists’ Residencies Programmes, which took place between 2015 and 2016 in Nicosia(3), Athens(1) and Berlin(1), with the participation of Greek-Cypriot, Turkish-Cypriot and European artists (34 in total). The Cyprus-centred concept of the residencies inspired the artists to research and self-express, highlighting their aesthetic, experiential and evolutionary results in practice, within the scope and vision of the original artworks produced.

CtA–REMIX is a true remix of experiences, reflections, challenges, actions and discussions, given as feedback by each residency to the CtA Programme, restructured and refocused on the juxtaposition of visual and social deliberations through art. Furthermore, it is an a posteriori remix of artworks, archive material and publications, giving the exhibition its own autonomous expression, and providing a social and artistic meaning that is friendly to the public.
The five residencies form part of the broader bi-communal project Confrontation through Art / Αντιπαράθεση μέσω Τέχνης / Sanat aracılığıyla Yüzleşme, developed and implemented by NGOs European Mediterranean Art Association(EMAA) and Rooftop Theatre Group, and funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action programme. The project aimed to contribute to the enhancement of peaceful co-existence, tolerance and creative problem-solving awareness and skills within artistic circles and other diverse segments of the Cypriot communities. It focused on bringing together young and mature artists to discuss, produce and express views on the Cyprus problem and related social challenges.
Parallel to the exhibition, CtA presents the trilingual catalogue (Greek, Turkish, and English), which was published in June 2017, and includes analytical notes, curatorial concepts, critical scholarly texts and a multitude of photographic material covering all actions concerning the Confrontation through Art programme. The catalogue will be offered free of charge.
The CtA – Remix exhibition is supported by the Cultural Services of the Republic of Cyprus.

“Confrontation through Art – REMIX”

Exhibition “Confrontation through Art – REMIX”

The Bi-communal project “Confrontation through Art”, funded by the European Union and realized by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists and curators (Nicosia 2014-2017), has the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of its final exhibition “CtA–REMIX” at Technopolis 20 gallery in Paphos, on Wednesday, 27th of September 2017, at 19:30.

The exhibition presents a rich selection of visual artworks (painting, sculpture, installation, video-art) created by Cypriot and European artists who participated in five different 10-day group art-residencies for research and work, organized by Confrontation through Art.

In total 40 European artists / curators, including 16 Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, were hosted in three art-residencies in old Nicosia, one in Athens and one in Berlin. The Cyprus-centred concept of the art-residencies inspired the artists to research and self-express, highlighting their aesthetic, experiential and evolutionary results in practice, within their own personal scope and vision.

CtA – REMIX is a true remix of experiences, reflections, challenges, actions and discussions, given as feedback to the CtA programme, restructured and refocused on the juxtaposition of visual and social deliberations through art. At the same time it creates an autonomous exhibit providing social and artistic meaning to the public.

Alongside the exhibition, the tri-lingual catalogue (Greek, Turkish, and English) is presented, published in June 2017, including analytical notes, curatorial concepts, critical scholarly texts and a multitude of photographic material covering all the actions of Confrontation through Art programme, offered free of charge.

The five art-residencies formed part of the broader bi-communal project Confrontation through Art / Αντιπαράθεση μέσω Τέχνης / Sanat aracılığıyla Yüzleşme which was developed and implemented by NGOs European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA) and Rooftop Theatre Group and funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action programme.

SAVE THE NIGHT!

The longest Night of Plovdiv returns this September for its thirteenth consecutive edition, for the first time in three evenings – 15, 16, 17 September.

Launched as “Night of Museums and Galleries” in 2005 as an initiative of Vesselina and Katrin Sarievi (founders of SARIEV Gallery and Open Arts Foundation), today the event is gathers numerous local, national and international art projects that enrich the cultural map of Plovdiv each September. In recent years, the audience of the festival is between 40 and 60 thousand people, with over 120 artistic projects located in 60 to 70 places in the city.

This year, the organizers will choose from over 70 project proposals from all fields of art – contemporary and traditional visual art, theater, cinema, contemporary dance, performance, etc., to be included in NIGHT/Plovdiv. The 2017 program will be traditionally divided in thematic sub-programs: “Museums, Galleries, Studios” – for the first time, the studios are accentuated as an equal part of the program so that the audience can peer into these specific workspaces of the artists; “City and Culture” – presents the cultural content of theaters, libraries, community and/or religious centers, cultural houses, cinemas; “Club and Music” – presents the alternative club spaces in the city; “Public Spaces” works for the development of the cultural map of Plovdiv by presenting artistic projects in open air public spaces; and in the “Little Night” traditionally the organizers include events for the youngest audience.

A special highlight in NIGHT/Plovdiv, 2017 will be the “Open Arts” program with the slogan HERE EVERYWHERE. The organizers, in partnership with some of the most active international cultural institutes and embassies, will present a special selection of artistic projects from Austria, France, Israel, USA, Finland, Spain, Indonesia, Korea and Bulgaria. For the first time Open Arts Foundation as member of the international platform for art in public spaces IN SITU, will present  art project part of the network. Special surprise on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Open Arts Foundation, will be a jubilee exhibition which will be presented installations, art pieces, videos, photos and archives part of the most interesting projects and activities from Bulgaria and abroad that have worked with Open Arts during the last decade.

Details for the entire program of NIGHT/Plovdiv will be revealed very soon. Until then “Save the Night for Plovdiv – 15, 16, 17 September”!

NIGHT / Plovdiv and this year is being co-organized with the America for Bulgaria Foundation and Plovdiv Municipality. For the international artistic program, the event works together with the Embassies of Austria, Israel, Finland, USA and Indonesia, as well as with the French Institute of Bulgaria, Cervantes Institute in Sofia, IN SITU. The festival is pleased to work in partnership with United Bulgarian Bank, VISA, Absolut, MentorMate, EVN, MF Plovdiv 2019 and others.
